- I gave up on the 21-Day Sugar Detox after 1 week.
- I haven't been eating Paleo or wheat-free for a while now. I'm not even sure how long.
- My body is fighting me. I've got bad eczema and am always itchy.
- I want to stay true to what I know works for me (not just in losing weight but how I feel) but am seriously struggling with it right now.
What's my solution to this? I don't know. Take 1 day at a time, I suppose. As long as I make it through one day eating the way I know I should, that's a victory. And just do that each day. Hell, even if I break it down by each meal. I need to go back to basics and baby steps.

21DSD: Days 7, 8 & 9!
Whew! Can't believe I'm so far into this detox! And that I've been slacking on here. To be fair, I've been busy. I'm currently in negotiations to buy a brand new 2013 Ford Escape! I randomly decided the other day to find out what the dealership might give me for my 2008 Volkswagen City Jetta. Turns out, they'll give me what I need to pay off that loan so I'm free to start a new loan for a brand new car. Sounds logical right?
Sunday was Day 7 and I did well, considering. Breakfast was bacon and eggs. We were given a 2010 Ford Edge to test drive so we went out to my dad's for lunch. I had a wonderful bratwurst with sauerkraut and my dad's homemade Caesar salad. It was tasty! Except something struck my stomach as not good and I ended up with the trots later that day. Still can't figure out what set it off. Can't remember dinner, don't think I had anything as my stomach was still upset. (This is why I should blog each day!)
Monday was Day 8 and I will admit I had a cheat. We had driven to Kamloops to VW there to find out what they would give me for my car and to test drive a Tiguan and it took much longer than I had thought it would and we found ourselves at Wendy's for late lunch/dinner. Could I have chosen better? Yes, of course! But I instead had the new flatbread sandwich (which was so-so) and fries. I did chose water though to drink.
Unfortunately, I let that one meal decide the rest of my night and when we got home, I had a chai latte from Starbucks (WAY too sweet!), a couple of cookies and polished off my dark chocolate bunny from Easter. Whew! It's too slippery a slope for me, I can't let myself have small cheats like that because it always leads to a slight binge.
Yesterday started typical, full fat Greek yogurt with banana and blueberries for breakfast then ham and eggs with cheese for lunch. Dinner was to be pork tacos in lettuce but as the fiancé was making his, I ended up sneaking a couple of flour tortillas to go with my tacos. *sigh* That of course, led to a mini-Blizzard from Dairy Queen. And it wasn't even worth it.
Back on track today!

21DSD: Day 6
Well today was a bit of a random day for me. I worked as usual but took a much later lunch today then usual and instead of eating, I went to a car dealership to see about trading my car in and getting something newer (and more family geared). I quickly inhaled my lunch when I got back but I think the damage was done. I ended up with a rather big headache and felt sluggish and tired. When I got home from work, I quickly cooked my steak and ate it rather quickly but it didn't help too much so I ended up taking an ibuprofen for the headache.
On the good side though, I didn't cave to any cravings! Still no sugar! I even had a tea latte from Starbucks with no sweeteners at all and it was okay.
So I managed to get a 2010 Ford Edge to test drive until Monday and so far I like it but it's a bit bigger than I expected. And I can't figure out how to get the car to connect to my phone. Grr! I'd still like to try the 2013 Ford Escape because I think it's a bit smaller. The fiancé pointed out that maybe I should be looking at the Volkswagen SUV as well. I currently drive a 2008 Volkswagen City Jetta. I love my Jetta and it's served me quite well (and it's almost paid off!) but it's quite small in the back and we'll hopefully be having a baby by this time next year so I'd like to be prepared for that. So tonight I did a bit of research at local VW dealers and there are a few used Tiguans for pretty decent prices. So! After I test drive the Fords I'll go see the VW guys!
Food:
Breakfast: Last of the prosciutto egg cups, 3 slices of bacon
Lunch: Leftover pork chop, baby carrots, cucumber slices
Dinner: Steak, greens smoothie
Snacks: Stove top popcorn with butter (okay so maybe this could be considered a cheat but it didn't have any sugar so I'm okay with it), unsweetened Earl Grey Tea Latte from Starbies.

21DSD: Day 5
Okay so yesterday was technically Day 5 but I got distracted by FaceTime with the parents and Grimm....anyway! Things are going along just fine! Headaches and carb-cold feelings are gone and I'm sleeping better already.
I may have been on the scale the last two days because I just can't seem to resist it. But there's good news! Down 4 lbs so far! Woot! It's nice to see it move in the downward direction.
I also had a girl I went to high school with message me on Facebook to ask about eating the Paleo way. She used to do the Visalus thing (in fact she got me signed up when I tried it last year) but I guess she hit a wall and wants to try something new. And she saw my picture on Facebook and thought I was looking good (very nice compliment!) so thought she'd ask me. I gave her some books to buy and some websites to check out and told her she could ask me anything she wanted. Although I told her I'm not an expert by any means!
Ooh and total NSV yesterday! I bought a new North Face spring jacket! I have never in my life fit a North Face jacket, not even the XL. Now this jacket is an XL but it fits me quite nicely and the fiancé says it's very slimming. YAHOO!!!!
Food:
Breakfast: 2 prosciutto eggs cups, 3 slices of bacon
Lunch: Leftover pork chops, baby carrots, cucumber slices, brussels
Dinner: Chicken breast cooked in butter and Frank's, green salad with feta, tomato and cucumber with EVOO and red wine vinegar dressing
Snack: Granny smith apple

21DSD: Day 4!
Wow, so a couple of new things for today!
- The headache I had the first 3 days is gone today! Yahoo! I'm over the hump! I've cut out sugar before and I know that as long as I have no slips/cheats that I won't get the headaches anymore.
- This morning I was getting dressed and wanted a different pair of pants so I dug deep in the back of my closet for a pair I was sure I had. I pulled them out and for some reason read the label. Size 14. I didn't even know I had that size in my possession. So I pulled them on, thinking I'd at least try them. Well, lo and behold, they FIT! And comfortably! That felt great!
Food:
Breakfast:2 prosciutto egg cups (Definitely a keeper recipe!)
Lunch: 2 oven baked hot wings, cucumber slices with guacamole, granny smith apple
Dinner: Caramelized pork chops with onion jam and balsamic roasted brussels sprouts
Tonight I had a slight craving for something vaguely sweet so I had an almond date roll (or 2....). That was plenty sweet enough for this kitten!
Oh yeah! And I've now had 2 coffees with just cream in them and NO SUGAR. That is huge for me! Seriously, my coffee has always been sugar with some coffee hence me avoiding it. But I had a grande Americano from Starbucks this morning with a good dose of coffee cream in it and it wasn't the same, I'll admit but it was do-able. :)
I had a work thing yesterday morning and there were these delicious looking muffins and fruit juices there but I actually had no urge to have any at all. Other than this evening, my cravings have been pretty much non-existent.
Bring on the rest of the detox!

21DSD: Day 2 and 3!
Day 2:
- massive headache again but am less hungry then I have been
- still incredibly tired at the end of the day
Food:
Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, 3 slices of bacon
Lunch: Baby carrots, cucumber slices, baked hot wings
Dinner: Hot wings and steamed asparagus with butter
Day 3:
- still headache by the end of the day but not as bad
Food:
Breakfast: Plain full fat Greek yogurt with green tipped banana and frozen blueberries (not detox approved but I'm not being that picky)
Lunch: 2 scrambled eggs with chunks of ham and cheddar cheese
Dinner: Mish mash of snacks: baby carrots with a homemade guacamole, couple of slices of prosciutto, popcorn popped in coconut oil
Dinner was weird tonight as I had a Facetime date with my sister who is in China teaching around dinnertime. And I wasn't very hungry. I did do some prep for the rest of the week. I made prosciutto egg cups with onions, spinach and mushrooms. Looks so yummy!
Overall, I feel okay so far (aside from the headaches) and while it sucks, I've been able to resist any kind of temptation so far.
I also decided not to weigh myself until the end of this month. I'm sticking to the detox for the first 21 days then it'll be sort of my own Whole30 the rest of the month. Also, I must get back to the gym!

21 Day Sugar Detox in April!
I started yesterday and it SUCKED! I had a massive headache by the end of the day and was so foggy minded and lethargic. We were in bed by 10:00! I feel okay so far this morning; hungry though.
I was originally going to attempt another Whole30 for April but found this detox for a good price and thought I've been so far off track lately that I should start smaller. I've been sucked back into sugar way too easily for most of the month of March.
I had told my stepmom that I wasn't going to actively try to lose weight anymore (until my wedding in September as my wedding dress is already bigger on me then when I bought it) so this detox isn't necessarily to lose weight. It's to get back on track eating the way I want and the way I know makes me feel better.
So I'll be back on here blogging about how the detox goes!
Day 1:
Breakfast: Scrambled egg with ham and cheese
Lunch: Ham slices, leftover scalloped potatoes
Dinner: Homemade hot wings (baked chicken wings with butter and Frank's Red Hot on top)
